No Frills No Lace Bras for Women Who Hate Bras

Image
Not a fan of lace? Prefer something more androgynous? Or just like minimal, comfortable no frill bras? Lace is great if you love frills, but not everyone does. Not to mention some people find it itchy and uncomfortable; and lace, bows and frou frou do tend to show more under knit clothes or t-shirts. T-shirt bras are smooth, but they also come with thicker material, heavier construction, and often wires which can pinch, ride up, or leave you squirming after a few hours of wear. Or maybe you just plain don't like wearing bras in the first place, but feel you need to for modesty or support. The wrong bra can mean pinching wires, slipping straps, or a band that digs into your stomach. Ouch! Who needs that? The right bra can fix those problems (here are ten bra fitting tips that can help) so that you don't have to spend your day constantly adjusting your bra. The bras on this page are wire-free, mostly non-padded, and have no lace, lumps or bumps. It’s all about clean lines and co...

Bras for Breasts with Upper Fullness that Won't Give You Quadraboob

Image
If you have breasts with upper fullness (sometimes called full on top) breasts, it can be hard to find a bra style that contains your tissue properly.  Many bras will cut across the top of your chest, leading to the dreaded "quadraboob" effect.  Others will gap at the bottom, because you don't have enough breast tissue at the bottom of your breast to fill out the bra. You can tell if you are full on top by bending over (with the upper part of your body straight and parallel to the floor) and looking at where your breasts fall on your body. If you have more tissue on top, and the nipples are facing toward  your stomach, you are likely full on top. The best bra styles for full on top breasts will have one of several features.  First, a bra with a vertical seam in the cup will help give you more lift and raise your breasts up from the bottom (helping with the gapping).  Next, is a balconette style.  Since there is less material on top, and the neckline is a sw...

Comfortable Lounging and Sleeping Bras You Can Wear All Night or Weekend

Image
There are a number of reasons to want a comfy sleep or lounging bra.  If you're pregnant you may feel sore and want extra support while you sleep.  If you're nursing, a sleep bra can be useful to help keep leaks from getting all over your clothes. Or. you might want a leisure bra because you've had surgery and can't wear your usual bras until you heal. Then there's monthly bloating and tenderness. Your regular bras ride up, the clasps won't close, and you're just plain miserable. In all of those cases, you need some support, but comfort is your number one priority! Or maybe, it's just because it's the weekend or the evening, and you want coverage and stability without the hassle of a full-fledged bra. Note that wearing a bra at night while you sleep will not prevent sagging.  Gravity is gravity. If you want to stay cool and comfortable too, check the descriptions for cotton bras (including plus sizes). Pullover Sleep or Leisure Bras in Plus Sizes Jus...

Bras with Side Boning Support that Hold Up Larger Busts

Image
If you're larger busted, you probably need extra support in your bra.  Women with smaller busts don't need bras with side support slings and boning, but if you're a D or bigger, or you have a full bust on a small frame, you'll need more support than a plain bra can give. This is why, sadly, larger bras rarely come in a demi-cup.  There's just not enough bra to hold everything in. The band should do most of the work, but if you have a big bust, and need a larger cup size, you'll need a bra with slings, panels, or boning (or all three!). This means either a piece of fabric under the arm, or at the bottom  of the cups.  Boning or extra panels on the side move you forward (better projection and less east-west); extra support along the bottom of the cups will help lift and support your breasts.  Slings that go entirely around the cups give you more projection, push in from the sides, and push your breasts forward.
