Front Closure Bras for Elderly Women That Are Comfortable and Easy to Put On

I'm not elderly (yet), but a recent experience gave me new appreciation for older (or otherwise not able-bodied) women who struggle just to get their bras on in the morning.  I strained something in my right arm. Suddenly, it became difficult to move my arms behind me in order to close my bra.  When I did, I got pain shooting up and down my arm. Ouch!

I was able to make do with an old sports bra (which I twisted around — don't do this with a bra you care about!) and an old Chantelle racerback bra that closes in front.

Luckily for me, my dexterity was still OK, and the underwire in the racerback bra didn't bother me.

However, if you're an elderly woman,  you've probably lost some mobility, or are struggling with loss of dexterity.  It may be harder to put your bras on, harder to close them, and the underwires may have become irritating. Or, you might suffer from back pain and find you can't stand up as straight as you used to.

Fortunately, there are comfortable bras for seniors that can help address these issues.  There are bras with better back support, larger clasps, and front snaps or even zippers.

Front Closure Plus Size Bras for Elderly Women

Glamorise Front Close Underwire Bra

This front closure plus size bra hits all the right notes.  It's got a front clasp, wide straps, and a wide back for extra support.  The straps are wide and cushioned (as is the underwire).

The clasp is a bit small though, so this is best if you have trouble reaching behind you, but can still manipulate small objects and see to clasp your bra.

As an extra bonus, it's even pretty. Best for larger size women.

Comes in white, beige, black/white polka dot, and plum.  Sizes 34, 35, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 B/C, D, DD, F and G.

Amoena Greta Front And Back Closure Soft Cup Bra

This bra closes in both the front and the back! Amoena bras are generally intended for post-surgery use (so there are pockets for a prosthesis), but this one will also work well if you have arthritis, had an injury, or have trouble reaching behind your back.

This style is meant for fuller bust shapes, so it’s not optimal if you are shallow. The sizes are mostly in the fuller figure, large band small cup range.

 It’s available in white or beige, sizes 34A-C, 36A-D, 38A-DD, 40A-DDD, 42A-DD, and 44C-DD.

Front Fastening Comfort Bras for Elderly Women

If underwires dig into your chest, or if you're experiencing discomfort from surgery, a no wire bra may be a better choice.  These bras are soft cup, so they are comfortable, without any wires to pinch or poke you.

Just My Size Front Close Wire Free Bra

With band sizes from 42-50, this bra works whether you need a large band, small cup or a full figure sized bra. It’s molded and has no wires to cut into your chest. Since the material is stretchy, it will mold to fit you better (which is especially good if you are uneven).

The straps are wide, as is the back band to help it stay in place and support your back. Good if you have arthritis and have trouble with typical tiny bra closures.

Sizes go from 42, 44 B-DDD, 46, 48 C-DDD and 50D-DD. White only.

Fresh Comfort Easy Open Front Close Bra

This bra comes in S-XXL, rather than cup sizes, so it’s best if you are small busted or want to use it as a leisure or sleep bra (there’s not enough support for large-busted women, try a Glamorise bra instead).

There’s no metal or hardware, just soft fabric made with modal and cotton. Instead of hooks or clasps, this bra closes with velcro! That makes it easy to adjust and a lot easier to close it (no little hooks to struggle with). Comes in white, blue, and beige.

Glamorise Magic Lift No Wire Front Close Plus Size Bra

This bra has no wires, just a soft band under the cups which criss-crosses across your chest to lift and support your bust. If you have trouble with your shoulders, you'll be able to put this on without needing help or pulling it around from the back (which would damage the bra).

The straps are padded and designed to reduce strain on your shoulders.

Sizes 38-58 B, C, D, DD, F, G, H, and I in pink and white.

Easy Snap Front Closure Bras for Seniors

Snap Front Closure Bra

No wires for comfort and no tricky closures either. This bra has a snap front so it's easy to fasten. It's also nearly entirely cotton, which is great if you have sensitive skin. The back is wide and high which will help lessen back fat. If you're larger, this is probably best as a leisure bra since it's not going to give a lot of support.

Sizes B/C/D 30-32, B/C/D 34-36, B/C/D 38-40, B/C/D 42-44, B/C/D 46-48, B/C/D 50-52 in white.

Lauren Silva Arthritis Bra

Front snaps make this bra easy to put on and remove without strain or pain.  It's easy to get dressed even if you have rheumatoid arthritis or suffer from other health problems which have reduced the dexterity in your fingers.

The back is lacy, for a bit of glamor. There's no velcro (which can sometimes rub or chafe) and the straps are adjustable for a better fit.

32 B/C/D/DD, 34 B/C/D/DD, 36B/C/D/DD, 38 B/C/D/DD, 40 B/C/D/DD, 42 B/C/D/DD, 44 B/C/D/DD, 46 B/C/D/DD, 48 B/C/D/DD, and 50 B/C/D/DDD in white.

Royce Women's Wire-Free Front-Close Bra

Intended as a bra for women who need prostheses, but it also works beautifully for senior women. It closes in front with snaps and doesn't have any wires to rub against your skin. The bra is 95% cotton and only 5% spandex, so it's also cool and comfortable. There's even some pretty edging around the cups and the straps.

Sizes 34B/C, 34D/DD, 36B/C, 36D/DD, 36B/C, 36D/DD, 38B/C, 38D/DD, 40B/C, 40D/DD, 42B/C, 42D/DD, 44B/C, 44D/DD in white.

Cottonique Front Closure Cotton Bra

While it won't win any prizes for looks, the Cottonique bra has several major advantages. First, it’s entirely cotton. So, if you have a sensitivity to latex or synthetic materials, this should be comfortable and not irritate your skin.  Lace is great, but it's not worth hives and itching.

There are also no wires to dig into your chest. It has two big clasps right in front so you don’t have to fiddle with tiny bra bits.  A big clasp is easier to close if you have arthritis in your fingers.  It closes in front so you don't have to strain to get dressed.

Ivory and black, in sizes 34, 36, and 38 B and C.

If you are a plus size, there is a similar style for 40 bands and larger The straps on this style adjust in the front, which makes it a lot easier to put on. Also comes in ivory and black.

Easy On Front Zipper Sports Bras

Another option is a sports bra.  Keep in mind that these are meant to be tighter than standard bras, so you might want to sister-size. The good thing is that you do get a better range of sizes than many of the other bras and they come in bright colors (if you don't just want beige or white).

Glamorise Women's Plus-Size Magiclift Zipper Sport Bra

A big, sturdy zipper makes this bra easy to open and close without straining a muscle. It even locks into place. Pull it up partway, then slip your arms in the straps, push the zipper flat, and close it.

No wires, just a special sling that supports without irritation or digging into your skin. Since it’s really a maximum impact (strenuous exercise) sports bra, you might want to size up.

This bra comes in white, hot pink/black and black with a bright pink zipper. Sizes 32 D-G, 34 D-G, 36B-G, 40B-G, 42B-G, 44B-G, 46C-G.

Valmont Zip-Front Sports Bra

Since the cup sizes aren’t exact this is good if you are in-between sizes or a larger B cup. The fabric is partially cotton (yay!) so it will keep you cool in hot, sticky weather. It has wide straps so they won’t slip and help support your back (the band is wide too). This should help alleviate back pain. Just slip it on like a button down shirt and zip up the front.

White, oatmeal, gray, black, pink, and navy. Sizes 34-48 B/C, D/DD, D/E, F/G, H/I

Champion Women's Zip Sports Bra, White Medium Grey, Large

This is intended to be a sports bra. However, the front zipper means no fumbling with tiny clasps. You don’t have to reach around your back to put it on either. It’s a good option if you don’t have good dexterity, or if you’ve injured yourself.

The sizes here are a bit limited (no cup sizes, just S-XL, so it’s likely not a good choice if you’re full busted). However, if your body size is proportional to your bust size. this is an easy-on, easy-off option.

And it comes in fun colors too; there’s white/gray, two varieties of two-tone blue. raspberry/black, two-tone melon, and black/green.
